Demonstrative Adjectives Spanish


Demonstrative adjectives in Spanish (este, ese, estos, esos, en español) have four forms and these can also be masculine or feminine.

Spanish Demonstrative Adjectives Usage

  • Este, esta, estos and estas are used to indicate a location, a time or a matter. (Following the far and near in the sing. and pl.)

Example:
Este será el regalo para mis hermanas.
This will be the gift for my sisters.

Estas manzanas están podridas.
These apples are rotten.

  • Ese, esa, esos and esas refer to a concern, time or place. (Following the far and near in the sing. and pl.)

Example:
Ese chico de camisa azul, es un buen estudiante.
That boy in the blue shirt, is a good student.

Esas chicas son muy trabajadoras.
Those girls are very hardworking.

  • Important: In Spanish, there is another category called aquel, aquella(s), aquello(s). These are used for emphasizing that the object in question is to be quite far.
